Hi Alicia, excellent article. You really nailed all the benefits of coconut oil for hair growth. I noticed substantial growth in just two months after using Coconut Oil on my hair at night after I shower and then rinse in the morning. Not only did it grow fast but it was thick as well.

I would like suggest one thing. I think it is better not to heat coconut oil in microwave as micro waves change the molecular structure of coconut oil. So, I personally prefer to heat coconut oil in a hot bowl of water. Just put the coconut oil inside a hot bowl of water for few minutes until it is warm.

You can also rather than bother heating it up just take a chunk and rub it in between your hands, melts in seconds! Also makes your nails grow strong and healthy too :)

@ Christine : I use pure, unrefined, cold pressed virgin organic oil. The brand I'm using right now is carrington farms. Also since it's solid don't use the microwave like the article says you can put some in a small cosmetic case or what ever you have and put that into warm water or you can rub it on your hands it doesn't take much for it to melt like others have said :-)

Can you keep a small amt of coconut oil in your scalp for hair health and growth. For example perhaps 2-3X/wk when u put a small amt on the ends of ur hair massage it t/o leaving a small amt in your scalp. I want to know if that can be damaging or helpful

@ Robin : I do that when I'm In between conditioning my hair. I condition my hair With coconut oil every 3 days so by day 2 I'm massaging a little on my scalp and also using some on my ends. I haven't had any issues yet.

I am 53 and been using a mix of 4 Oz coconut oil with 7g of medical grade marijuana. In fuse over night, strain through a coffee filter. You can mix a few other essential oils in there. WOW WORKS GREAT, I had blond/ greay straight thin hair, that by the end of the day it was done , Now after one month use.put it on about an hour before bed , leave it in all night. It really is thicker, and I think I may need it cut it weeks as opposed to 6 weeks. I think it works great.

Please help. My hair has always been my pride and joy. I figured since it is pretty damn healthy, it could deal with some extensions. I was wrong, and now I want to burst into tears every time I look at my natural hair. I just don't know what to do. my hair has also NEVER been shorter than this and it breaks and falls out. What should i do to regrow hair?

You can get Coconut Oil from any Indian or even Try a Halal store. Ususually $8 a bottle a little goes a long way, I mix coconut oil and Olive Oil and I apply it as a hair mask with a plastic shower cap before bed , then shower and wash my hair well in the morning . It takes time but it works
