Vampire Hunter D and Blood: The last Vampire are two animes not really ment for children. The same goes for Btooom! and Gantz. Gantz is pretty heavy on the psychological part.

It seems it's mostly just "adult" in the same way "spider man", "from dusk till dawn", or "batman" are for "adults".
