The urinary system, assisted by other organs in the body, is responsible for balancing the level of water and chemicals in the body. Additionally, the system is responsible for removing waste products from the body. Basically, an adult lady can urinate up to a quart and a half in a day. The amount of urine you pass in a day is mainly affected by the quantity of fluids taken. The amount of urine you pass in a day may also be affected by the rate of sweating and breathing. At some point, you may notice some white stuff in urine. So, what exactly is it?

White Stuff in Urine, Is It Serious?

Actually, you should not panic following this discovery because it is a rather common condition in ladies. However, if the occurrence of the white stuff is accompanied by pain and fever, get an appointment with your doctor. Additionally, if the problem occurs overnight, you should head to the ER the first thing in the morning.

White Stuff in Urine, What Could It Be?

White stuff in urine can be an indicator of various underlying conditions, some of which are not serious. However, the presence of white clumps in urine may also be an indicator of a rather serious condition that needs urgent medical attention.
1

Sediment

Sediments in alkaline urine may be associated with phosphate debris. This is a rather common occurrence; hence no need to be worried. The white stuff could be a result of detached walls of the urinary tract lining. Fungus and yeast in the urinary tract may also lead to this problem.

2

Urinary Tract Infection

Under normal circumstances, urine is clear and its color ranges from yellow to amber. Normally, urine is free of fungi, bacteria and viruses, but rather fluids and waste products from the body. A bacterial infection in the urinary tract can cause the urine to be cloudy and have white tiny particles suspended within. This type of infection occurs when bacteria known as Escherichia coli attaches to the opening of the urethra and start spreading.

If you suspect that you are suffering from UTI, it is advisable to see a doctor immediately as the infection can spread past the bladder and affect the kidneys as well.

3

Kidney Issues

If the white stuff appears like sand granules, it may be an indicator that you are suffering from kidney stones. If you have ever suffered from kidney stones, the likelihood of the condition recurring is very high. Subsequent recurrence of kidney stones will not only happen in the kidneys, it will also affect other parts of the tract. This can cause varying complications and symptoms within the tract. As such, kidney stones could be the cause of the white clumps in urine. If you suspect this to be the problem, you should see a doctor for diagnosis.

4

Parasitic Infections

Some parasitic infections in the urinary tract, like filariasis and schistosomiasis infections, are caused by worm-like parasites that may appear like white suspensions in urine. Other parasitic infections in the urinary tract, like trichomoniasis infection, lead to production of mucus threads, which are suspended in the urine.

Fungal infections, like candidiasis infection, have also been known to cause a white stuff in urine. Other conditions that can lead to the production of white suspensions in the urine include polyps and bladder cancer. Once you notice the white suspensions, you should see an urologist for diagnosis.

5

Bacterial Vaginosis

The bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a condition that occurs when a certain bacteria, that naturally occurs in the vagina, spreads too much. Some of the symptoms associated with this condition include:

  • A foul and fishy smell emanating from the vagina

  • Increased amount of vaginal discharge, the discharge is either white or gray in color

  • Itching around the vagina

Since BV is curable, it is important that you seek medical attention the moment you notice such symptoms. If not attended to in time, this condition could lead to more serious health problems, like pelvic inflammatory disease.

6

Monilia (Yeast) Infection

Under normal circumstances, there is a small amount of yeast in the vaginal tract. However, the yeast may grow to alarming rates, hence causing Monilia infection, which normally happens when the pH of the vaginal tract changes. Some of the symptoms associated with this yeast attach are mentioned below:

  • Increased vaginal discharge

  • A clumpy and white discharge that appears like cottage cheese

  • Burning and itching sensation, coupled with redness of the vaginal area

Rather than trying to eliminate this yeast from the urinary tract, treatment options for the infection aim at combating the overgrowth. Some of the medications that may be used for the condition include antifungal agents, which may be administered in the form of suppositories, vaginal creams or tablets.

7

Retrograde Ejaculation

This is a condition whereby the semen goes into the urinary bladder rather than coming out of the penis during ejaculation. Such men are likely to notice white stuff in urine when they are urinating. This can happen to men who have ever had any type of prostate surgery in the past. Additionally, it could be an indicator that the upper sphincter muscles of the urinary tract are not closing as they are supposed to or the lower sphincter muscles are not opening during ejaculation.

In most cases, this problem may be rectified. However, if the existence of white clumps in urine is accompanied by pus and an itching sensation in the urinary tract, it could be an indicator that you are suffering from an STD.
