How to Use Essential Oils for Dog Allergies

Use Quality Oils

Make sure you choose oils that will help improve the conditions of your dog. Only go for therapeutic-grade oils, because other types contain chemicals and solvents, which can be harmful to your dog. Do not be tempted by the price of the inferior ones which may cause serious conditions such as clogs in liver.

Dilute Oils

The strength of these essential oils is usually determined by the human body, and it equals about a 100-pound dog. So it is advisable to dilute and restrain these oils to make sure they won't do harm to your dog. Always use base oils like olive oil to dilute essential oils. Never use water to mix essential oils, because oils can't be mixed with water, and this can also irritate your dog's skin.

Apply Essential Oils

Essential oils can be applied on dogs in three ways:

  • Aromatically: Essential oils can be aromatically applied on dogs by putting just a drop on their beds or on their collars. You can also put some drops in base oil and then spray their fur.

  • Topically. Essential oils can be used on the toes, ears, or spines of dogs. These oils can be applied directly on the dog’s body, but be careful to make sure the essential oils do not enter their eyes and other sensitive parts like the genital areas.

  • Internally. This can be done by putting the oil in an empty capsule or in their food if they can stand the smell. Only one drop is recommended for this method.
